Porsche Unveils Plans for Future Electric Hypercar

Porsche has revealed details about its future electric hypercar, the new flagship model which is considered the spiritual successor to the 918 Spyder. Michael Ber, the head of the Porsche Mission X project, shared insights with Which Car magazine. While some fundamental details about its construction are known, Ber mentioned that the final decision regarding the hypercar’s production is yet to be made.

Porsche intends to bring to market the new hypercar based on the Mission X concept. According to Michael Ber, the production version will closely resemble the concept externally, albeit with some refinements, such as a modified roofline. Porsche aims to increase headroom for the pilot compared to the 918 Spyder, ensuring greater comfort when driving with a racing helmet.

Additionally, there may be changes in the layout, with an extended wheelbase and integration of the battery into the floor panels, whereas in the concept, they are located behind the cockpit capsule. Another difference is that the all-wheel drive will be driven by practicality rather than for enhanced maneuverability. Engineers believe this will enhance the efficiency of the recuperation system. Porsche assures that the hypercar will have enough energy reserves to cover at least three laps around the Nürburgring at full throttle. The expected power-to-weight ratio of the motors is approximately 1:1.

Porsche will greenlight the hypercar’s production under specific conditions, including the development of a charging system twice as fast as the current Porsche Taycan, and aerodynamics that generate more downforce than the 911 GT3 RS. Finally, the electric vehicle must have the potential to become the absolute record holder at the Nürburgring among serial production road cars. Currently, this title belongs to the Mercedes-AMG One with its 6 minutes and 35.183 seconds lap time. Michael Ber suggests that Porsche’s management will make the final decision sometime this year.

Meanwhile, following a recent update, the Taycan has become the most powerful road-going Porsche in history. In its Turbo GT guise, it is equipped with engines capable of producing up to 1109 horsepower and can accelerate to 200 km/h in 6.4 seconds.
