This M240i with 1500 horsepower is the fastest BMW on the planet
The six-cylinder B58 engine from BMW is rapidly gaining attention in the import drag racing community. This 3.0-liter powerplant has showcased its remarkable reliability and capacity to handle substantial boost, making it an ideal choice for achieving high power and speed on the track. The showcased BMW 2 Series with 1500 horsepower demonstrates that the B58 rightfully earns its status as the successor to the Toyota 2JZ.
Externally, this M240i xDrive coupe appears almost stock, save for the sticky drag tires fitted. One would hardly suspect that under the hood lies a heavily modified version of the six-cylinder B58, outfitted with new camshafts, ported heads, an upgraded fuel system, and a 74-millimeter Precision turbocharger running at 49 pounds of boost.
The all-wheel-drive system remains intact, propelled by an enhanced version of the factory eight-speed automatic transmission from Pure Drivetrain Solutions. Reinforced axles and a carbon driveshaft are also installed to manage the extra torque, although surprisingly, the rear differential remains unchanged.
Moreover, the factory ECU is retained and modified to accommodate all drivetrain alterations, allowing this 2 Series to retain most of its original features, including climate control, infotainment system, cruise control, and more. Much of the interior also remains unchanged. According to the owner, the car weighs around 3510 pounds with them behind the wheel.
This is why the 7.9-second quarter-mile time at 175 miles per hour at the TX2K event in Texas earlier this month is so impressive. This achievement makes this 2 Series the fastest and quickest BMW on the planet in the quarter-mile, without question. And all of this is achieved without significant concern for weight or aerodynamics. With a few additional modifications, we’re confident this BMW could become even faster.
